Riverdale, N.Y. – In an important Skyline Conference Men's Soccer matchup, Mount Saint Mary College was dealt a 5-2 road loss at Mount Saint Vincent on Sunday morning. Freshman
Joseph Dolan (New Paltz, N.Y.) and junior
Michael Zanfardino (Saint James, N.Y.) each tallied for the Knights in the game.
In a tightly contested first half, the home standing Dolphins broke through with a late goal to head into the intermission with a 1-0 lead. Alex Scordo headed in a feed from Rodrigo Silva in the final half minute of the opening period for the first score of the game.
Coming out of halftime, Mount Saint Mary connected on back-to-back goals to move in front 2-1 with just over 29 minutes left in regulation time. Dolan tallied his third goal of the year in the 56
th minute to even the score and Zanfardino pushed the Mount in front with his first of the season off a free kick in the 61
st minute.
Freshman
Michael Blaauboer (Latham, N.Y.) assisted on the Dolan marker, recording his team leading sixth assist and moving into a tie for the team lead in points with 16.
Leading 2-1, the Knights saw Mount Saint Vincent rip off four straight goals in the final 25 minutes to pull away for the victory. Kevin Jardines tallied in the 65
th minute to level the contest before Guy Horcasitas netted the eventual game winner in the 72
nd minute. Jair Magallan added an insurance marker with just under 12 minutes left in the game and Jardines potted his second of the game in the 82
nd minute to close out the scoring.
Mount Saint Mary was outshot 10-5 in the second half and 13-7 overall in the game, including 10-4 in shots on goal. Corner kicks also went to the Dolphins by a 13-8 count on Sunday.
Senior
Austin Peluso (Farmington, Conn.) rounded out the game with five saves in goal for Mount Saint Mary, with David Melchor earning the win for Mount Saint Vincent with a pair of saves.
Sunday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 5-10-3 overall on the season and to 4-3-2 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights will close out the regular season on Tuesday when they travel to conference front runner Sage. Kick-off with the Gators is scheduled for 8:15 p.m.
