Old Westbury, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team earned a conference point on Saturday afternoon following a 1-1 draw on the road at Old Westbury. Senior
Michael Ennis (Carmel, N.Y.) netted his team leading sixth goal of the season late in regulation to send the game into overtime.
Mount Saint Mary carried the pay in the first half on Saturday, heading into halftime with a 9-0 advantage in shots and a 9-1 edge in corner kicks. Despite the advantage in shots overall, Old Westbury keeper, Peter Sicardi, was forced to make just a single stop in the first 45 minutes.
The two teams remained scoreless until the late stages of regulation time before Old Westbury struck first to take a late one goal advantage. Adilson Reyes converted a penalty kick at the 86:38 mark of the contest for his second goal of the year to push Old Westbury in front 1-0.
Trailing by a goal in the final minutes, Mount Saint Mary battled back to even the score and force overtime. With 90 seconds lefts in regulation, freshman
Michael Blaauboer (Latham, N.Y.) found Ennis inside the box and Ennis deposited his sixth goal of the season at the 88:30 mark of the tilt. The goal came on the Mount's sixth shot of the second half.
Both teams finished the first 10 minute overtime with a shot each before Old Westbury took the only three shots in the second extra session. Senior goalkeeper
Austin Peluso (Farmington, Conn.) secured the point for the Knights with a pair of saves in the second overtime period and three saves after regulation overall.
Peluso rounded out the game with four stops for Mount Saint Mary, with Sicardi also turning in a strong effort with a pair of stops for the Panthers.
Overall, Mount Saint Mary finished the game with a 16-11 edge in overall shots, while Old Westbury held a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Knights dominated corner kicks in the game, 11-2.
Ennis finished the game leading all players with eight shots for the Knights, with
Joseph Dolan (New Paltz, N.Y.) and Blaauboer each posting a pair of attempts. Blaauboer's assist was his team leading sixth of the season.
Saturday's results moves Mount Saint Mary to 5-9-2 overall on the season and to 4-2-1 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights will return to action on Wednesday when they welcome Yeshiva to Kaplan Field. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
