NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team (5-9) dropped a non-conference matchup at Albertus Magnus College (8-9) by a score of 78-52 Wednesday evening.
The Knights shot just 20.6 percent (7-of-34) in the first half, while their opponents were good on 44.1 percent (15-of-34) of their shots from the field, en route to a 42-20 halftime score in favor of the host Falcons. They recovered to shoot 34.4 percent (11-of-32) in the second half, but were still unable to keep up with Albertus Magnus, which pushed its lead to as many as 30 points in the second half.
Olivia Bolden paced the Falcons with 20 points, while Chelsea Sherrod picked up a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Olivia Sutherland turned in a solid effort with seven points, seven boards and six assists.
Freshman forward
Jessica Rini (Seaford, N.Y.) came off the bench to lead the Knights with 10 points on the evening. Sophomore guard
Marisa Delzio (Brewster, N.Y.) scored nine points, grabbed five boards, handed out three assists and picked up two steals. Senior guard
Lauren Romao (Brick, N.J.) led the Knights with four assists.
The Falcons dominated the boards to the tune of a 58-34 rebounding advantage. They also outscored the Knights in the paint, 42-14. The home team took what was given to it, making 10-of-11 free throws (90.9 percent) on the evening. The Knights had trouble from long range, making just 1-of-16 three-pointers.
The Knights are in need of a bounce-back game, as they face Farmingdale State College in a crucial Skyline Conference contest on Saturday, Jan. 24. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
