Women’s Basketball Takes Down Yeshiva, 75-47

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Finally getting to play after having its last two games postponed due to back-to-back snow storms, the Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball (6-9) team halted a two-game drought by defeating Yeshiva University (2-10) at Baruch College's ARC Arena, 75-47, in non-conference action Wednesday evening. With their sixth win of the year, the Knights have surpassed last season's win total with 10 games still left in the regular season.

Yeshiva took an early 15-4 lead over the Knights just over seven minutes into the game, but once the Knights tied the game at 21-21 with 7:51 to play before halftime, there was no looking back. The Knights scored 22 of the next 29 points to close out the half with a 43-28 advantage.

The Knights' lead grew to as many as 32 points on two separate occasions in the second half as they made a much-needed statement to regain momentum before the stretch run against the Skyline Conference. They held on to outscore the Maccabees by 13 points in the second frame for the 28-point victory.

Senior guard Lauren Romao (Brick, N.J.) and sophomore guard Marisa Delzio (Brewster, N.Y.) each made three three-pointers and matched each other with 13 points apiece to lead the Knights on Wednesday. Delzio had game-highs with six steals and five assists, while Romao grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Stephanie Greenberg turned in a solid effort for the Maccabees, leading all scorers with 18 points and eight rebounds. Julia Owen also had a big game for the Macs with 18 points and six boards.

A significant difference in the game was the 24-15 takeaway advantage for the Knights, as they turned that ratio into a 22-2 edge in points off turnovers. Their depth also proved to be advantageous, as the Knight reserves outscored Yeshiva's bench, 32-0. The Knights also dominated the paint to the tune of a 30-14 scoring differential from in close.

After Wednesday's blowout victory, the Knights will look to lock up a winning streak, as they take a trip to SUNY College at Old Westbury on Saturday, Jan. 31, for a Skyline Conference matchup with the Panthers. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
