PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team (8-12) picked up a split at the Manhattanville College Tri-Match on Saturday, falling to Manhattanville (9-8), 3-1 (25-18, 12-25, 25-23, 25-21), before bouncing back to defeat York College (N.Y.) (1-13), 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-19), in a pair of non-conference matches.

The Knights hit better than their opponents in the opening-match loss, turning in a .116 clip to just .095 for the host Valiants. After splitting the first two sets, the Knights held a 23-21 lead late in the third frame. The Valiants recovered to win the final four points of the game to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Both teams were neck-and-neck in the fourth set at 18-18, but a 7-3 run for Manhattanville determined the match.

Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Sabatini (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) led the Knights with 12 kills in the loss, while junior outside hitter Kayla Kurka (Islip, N.Y.) followed with 11. Sabatini also added 15 digs and a pair of service aces. Sophomore setter Claire Scully (Bloomfield, N.J.) dished out 24 assists, while freshman libero Chelsea Barberan (Fishkill, N.Y.) picked up 20 digs. Manhattanville's Alissa Primavera had a match-high 16 kills.

The Knights improved to hit .163 in their second match, while holding York to a .014 clip. The Knights ran into trouble in the second set and trailed 23-18, but they rallied to take the final seven points of the game to wrap up the second set before winning the third set for the sweep.

Sabatini added seven more kills in the second match and hit .353. Scully handed out another 12 assists, while freshman defensive specialist Juli Figueroa (Dorado, Puerto Rico) picked up 12 digs.
