Lockwood Dazzles in Men’s Soccer’s 4-0 Shutout of Old Westbury

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Graduate student midfielder Sean Lockwood (Manahawkin, N.J.) turned in a five-point effort to lead the Mount Saint Mary College men's soccer team (5-2-1, 2-0-0 Skyline) to a 4-0 shutout victory over SUNY College at Old Westbury (6-4, 1-2 Skyline) Saturday afternoon in Skyline Conference action at Kaplan Field.

As part of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day sponsored by Colleges Against Cancer, the Knights donned teal armbands and 50/50 raffle tickets were sold with all proceeds going toward ovarian cancer research. The raffle raised $120 for ovarian cancer research.

Lockwood scored the first and last goals of the game for the Knights in Saturday's win, and assisted senior forward Matt Garcia's (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) goal early in the second half to lead the Knights with five points. His goals were his first two of the season.

Lockwood scored an unassisted goal in the 16th minute of the game after bringing the ball into the box from the right side and beating the keeper to the lower left corner of the net to put the Knights up, 1-0. Moments after each checked into the game, sophomore midfielder Matt Minniter (Mahopac, N.Y.) connected off a feed from junior midfielder Jarrett Armstrong (West Hempstead, N.Y.) to double the home team's lead.

Garcia got on the board at 54:44 after Lockwood crossed it to him from the close left wing, setting him up for an easy one-on-one with the Panther keeper for the score. Lockwood tallied his second of the day at 59:54 after firing the ball off the keeper's hands in the short right corner of the net and over his head across the line, putting the Knights up, 4-0. Freshman forward Eric Hayes (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) picked up the assist on the play.

Junior goalkeeper Austin Peluso (Farmington, Conn.) picked up his third win of the season on Saturday, but did not need to make a save in 68:03 between the pipes. Sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Biscone (Garden City, N.Y.) closed out the shutout for the Knights, making the team's only save in his 21:57 of play. Old Westbury's Kelvin Rivera made 11 saves, but allowed the four goals to shoulder the loss.

The Knights held a significant 33-5 advantage in total shots on Saturday, including an 11-1 differential in shots on goal. They also tallied 11 corner kicks to just three for the Panthers.

The defending Skyline champs take a 2-0 conference record into their third Skyline matchup of the season on Wednesday, when they take on Sarah Lawrence College for the first time in Skyline play. The game is set to kick off at 8:30 p.m. at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers, N.Y.
