NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Freshman goalkeeper
Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) did not need to make a single save to earn her second shutout of the season on Wednesday, as the Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team (3-2) shutout local rival Bard College (3-3-1), 1-0, on a brisk evening at Kaplan Field.
The Knights held the Raptors to just three total shots on the evening, and did not allow a single one to reach its target. Riley picked up the shutout victory to improve to 3-2 on her rookie campaign, while Bard's Kelsey O'Brien suffered the hard-luck loss after allowing just one goal and stopping 10 shots.
Junior forward
Melissa Maini (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) took a through ball from senior forward
Marissa Segreto (West Islip, N.Y.) in the left side of the box, and fired home to the right corner to beat the keeper in the 80th minute for the game-winning goal. It was Maini's second score of the season and Segreto's first assist.
The Knights held a significant 25-3 lead in shots on the night, including 11 shots on goal. They also earned nine corner kick opportunities to just one for the Raptors.
The Knights are set to open Skyline Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 20, when they host SUNY College at Old Westbury at Kaplan Field. The game is set to begin at 12 p.m.
