Box Score ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Junior forward
Michael Ennis (Carmel, N.Y.), the hero of last year's Skyline Conference Championship game, played the protagonist once again, scoring in the first minute of overtime to lead the Mount Saint Mary College men's soccer team (1-0) to a 3-2 opening-day victory over Bard College (0-1) Friday evening at the Ferrari Soccer & Lacrosse Complex.
Ennis provided two of the Knights' three goals on the evening. In overtime, Ennis took the ball away from a Bard defender and fired to the near post, beating the keeper just 57 seconds into the extra period to give the Knights the win. With the Knights down 1-0, Ennis tied the game at the 56:49 mark off assists from freshman forward
Joe Sadofsky (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder
Nick Ciani (Vernon, N.J.).
Sophomore goalkeeper
Tyler Biscone (Garden City, N.Y.) picked up his first win of the season, making three saves. Taylor Bond suffered the loss for Bard, but stopped five shots.
Jasper Shorter gave the Raptors the first lead of the game early in the second half. He shot the ball off a Knight defender, getting it past the keeper to put the home team up a score. After Ennis tied the game, freshman forward
Eric Hayes (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) scored his first collegiate goal off a rebound from a shot by senior forward
Matt Garcia (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) to give the Knights a 2-1 lead.
With time winding down, Bard's Matt Rowlinson rebounded his own shot into the net to tie the game at two apiece. Despite the momentum shift, Ennis was able to give the Knights the victory in overtime.
The Knights outshot the Raptors on Friday, 17-10, including an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal. They also had three corner kick opportunities to just one for the home team.
