PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – Senior forward Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) turned in a career-best 26 points to power the Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team (4-16, 4-6 Skyline) to a much-needed 68-53 Skyline Conference victory at St. Joseph's College (L.I.) (2-17, 2-7 Skyline) Saturday afternoon.

Perrone's hot streak continued Saturday, as she is now averaging 20.9 points over her last eight contests and 15.5 points per game on the season. She added eight rebounds as well, and is averaging 11.4 rebounds per game over the same period of time.

The Knights took control of the game early, leading 15-5 at the 13:46 mark after a three-pointer from junior guard Lauren Romao (Brick, N.J.). They took a commanding 18-point lead at 32-14 with 4:24 until halftime, but the Golden Eagles turned the momentum in their favor to start chipping away at the Knight lead. The Knights scored just one point down the stretch before the break, the St. Joe's made 6-of-10 shots en route to a 14-1 run to trail by just five (33-28) at the half.

Neither team was able to grab much momentum in the early portion of the second frame until an 11-2 run by the Eagles tied the game at 45 at the 12:59 mark. The Knights quickly turned the tables on both sides of the ball. They scored 17 of the next 19 points, and held their hosts to just eight points the rest of the way before finishing off their fourth victory of the year with a 15-point advantage.

Senior forward Jessica Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) was solid as always, turning in a 12-point, eight-rebound effort on Saturday. Romao filled up the stat sheet with nine points, seven rebounds, seven assists and a pair of steals, while sophomore guard Nicole Scicutella (Massapequa, N.Y.) added 10 points and seven boards.

The Golden Eagles were led by Christina Cohen's 24 points and seven steals in Saturday's loss. Danielle Hamlin just missed a double-double with 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

The Knights shot 40 percent (26-of-65) from the field on Saturday, including 6-of-9 (66.7 percent) from beyond the arc. They pulled down 49 rebounds as a team, while allowing just 37 for their opponents.

The Knights hit the floor once again on Wednesday, Feb. 12, when they host the College of Mount Saint Vincent in a Skyline Conference matchup at the Kaplan Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
