NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team (5-20, 5-9 Skyline) fell just short of a terrific victory, dropping a heartbreaking 73-69 decision to SUNY College at Old Westbury (8-17, 6-8 Skyline) on Senior Day and the women's basketball team's season finale on Sunday at the Kaplan Center.

Knight seniors Kaeley Miller (Newburgh, N.Y.), Jessica Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) and Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) were honored by their coaches, teammates, families and fans prior to Sunday's tip-off for their contributions to the Mount women's basketball program throughout their tenures in the Blue and Black.

The Knights trailed the Panthers, 44-36, entering the second half, and showed their toughness as they battled through the period. Old Westbury took a 55-46 lead at the 13:59 mark after a three-point play by DeAndra Scott. Junior guard Lauren Romao (Brick, N.J.) then drained back-to-back clutch threes to cut the deficit to just three points.

The Knights finally took the lead at the 7:15 mark when sophomore guard Nicole Scicutella (Massapequa, N.Y.) sank a pair of free throws to put the Knights up, 59-58. A Romao jumper pushed the lead to three before Scott made two free throws to cut the Knight lead back to one. Romao came up big again on the next play, nailing another three to push the lead to four.

The Panthers chipped away at the lead again, regaining the lead with 3:31 to go on a layup by Chloe Mellon. Scott followed with a jumper to put the visitors up by three. The Knights cut the lead to two with 10 seconds to play on a layup by junior forward Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.), but two Clarissa Gallagher free throws shut down the Knights' chances at completing the comeback.

Scott, the Skyline Conference's leading scorer, had a huge game for the Panthers, scoring 25 points and grabbing 16 boards for a double-double. Gallagher picked up a double-double as well with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Rachel Perrone finished her career with a bang, scoring 25 points and pulling down 14 rebounds. She also blocked two shots and stole the ball three times. Romao hit three three-pointers en route to a 15-point effort, dishing out a team-high five assists and picking up four steals in the process. Jessica Perrone and Candarelli both hit double-digits with 10 points each, grabbing seven and six rebounds, respectively. Miller got the start on Senior Day and grabbed a career-high seven boards.

The Knights shot 33.3 percent (24-of-72) from the field on the afternoon, including four threes. They made 17-of-19 (89.5 percent) of their free throws. The Panthers held a 49-47 edge in rebounds, but the teams were even with 22 points each in the paint.

The Knights' season concludes with a 5-20 overall record, including a 5-9 Skyline mark. They placed sixth in the Skyline Conference.
