NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team (3-15, 3-5 Skyline) was unable to overcome a big Farmingdale State College (11-7, 8-1 Skyline) second half, as the Knights fell Saturday afternoon to the Rams, 78-59, at the Kaplan Center.
Farmingdale quickly jumped out to a 10-point lead at the 13:33 mark and was able to keep a safe distance throughout the first half. The Knights did not let the game get away, keeping the deficit at 10, trailing the Rams at the half, 32-22.
The Rams broke the game open in the early parts of the second frame, running out to a 51-26 lead at the 13:50 mark. The lead reached as many as 28 points, but the Knights chipped away late. However, they were unable to cut the deficit to less than 19 points, trailing 78-59 at the final buzzer.
Senior forward
Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.), a double-double machine over the last two weeks, picked up her fifth in a row with 20 points and 13 boards. Junior guard
Lauren Romao (Brick, N.J.) drained four three-pointers en route to a 14-point effort. Freshman guard
Tatiana Brown (Bridgeport, Conn.) added six points and a Knights' season-high 10 assists.
Camille Romero and Andrea Desvignes paced the victorious Rams with 16 points apiece. Nicky Young also put in a solid effort with 11 points, eight boards and seven assists.
The Knights shot 35.2 percent (25-of-71) from the field on Saturday, while the Rams made 39.4 percent (28-of-71) of their shots. Farmingdale's bench played a big role in the victory, contributing 35 of the Rams' 78 points.
The Knights return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 4, when they take a trip to Troy, N.Y. for a Skyline Conference matchup at The Sage Colleges. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
