THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's soccer team (7-2-1, 4-0-0 Skyline) came out on the winning side of a defensive struggle on Saturday, defeating Maritime College (5-5, 1-1 Skyline), 1-0, in Skyline Conference action at a rainy Reinhart Field.
Junior midfielder
Jarrett Armstrong (West Hempstead, N.Y.) tallied the game-winner for the Knights in the 72nd minute of play. Junior forward
Michael Ennis (Carmel, N.Y.) carried the ball in on the left side and beat a defender low before passing the ball into the middle of the eight-yard box to Armstrong. He fired off a shot that Maritime goalkeeper Karl Weber got a piece of, but the ball still managed to trickle just over the goal line to give the Knights the lead, and eventually, the victory.
Junior goalkeeper
Austin Peluso (Farmington, Conn.) made three saves to pick up his third shutout and fourth victory of the season. Weber made six stops, but allowed the lone goal to pick up the loss.
The Knights outshot the Privateers by a count of 16-8 on the afternoon, including a 7-3 shots on goal differential. Maritime held the edge in corner-kick opportunities, 5-2.
The Knights will look to improve upon their four-game winning streak when they host the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Skyline Conference play on Thursday, Oct. 9. The game is set to kick off under the light at Kaplan Field at 7 p.m.
