RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Senior forward
Marissa Segreto's (West Islip, N.Y.) goal-scoring streak reached five games as she scored the game-winner in the Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team's (12-4-1, 6-0-1 Skyline) 2-0 shutout victory at the College of Mount Saint Vincent (12-4, 4-3 Skyline) Saturday afternoon. The win locks up a first-round bye in the Skyline Conference Championship tournament for the Knights.
Segreto followed up an initial shot from freshman defender
Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.) in the 27th minute to give the Knights a lead they would not forfeit. The goal was her seventh in the last five games, improving her season total to a career-best 13 goals. Segreto later assisted a goal scored by freshman midfielder
Nicole Cavallo (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) in the 89th minute, doubling the Knights' lead.
Freshman goalkeeper
Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) notched her seventh shutout victory, and the fourth in her last six games, with four saves on Saturday. She has allowed just two goals in the last 663:17 she has played between the pipes. Mount Saint Vincent's Elizabeth Martin suffered the loss after allowing the game-winning goal in the first half. Kerilyn O'Keeffe came on in relief after the goal, and allowed the Knights' late goal in 63:45 of play.
The Knights dominated possession in the game, outshooting the Dolphins, 24-5. They also took a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
With the bye already secured, the Knights will look to complete their fourth straight season without a loss to a Skyline Conference opponent on Monday, Oct. 27, when they play host to Purchase College in the final game of the regular season. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. at Kaplan Field.
