NEWBURGH, N.Y. – With a 7-0 rout of Purchase College (7-9, 3-5 Skyline) Monday evening at Kaplan Field, the Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team (13-4-1, 7-0-1 Skyline) secured the No. 2 seed in the Skyline Conference Championship tournament, giving the Knights a bye through the first round. They will take on the winner of Saturday's quarterfinal matchup between No. 3 The Sage Colleges and No. 6 SUNY College at Old Westbury.
Senior forward
Marissa Segreto (West Islip, N.Y.), the reigning Skyline Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week, extended her goal scoring streak to six games with a pair of first-half scores in Monday's contest. She now has career-highs with 15 goals and 36 points on the season. Junior midfielder
Melissa Guillemette (Branford, Conn.) joined Segreto with two goals in the win, adding an assist for a five-point effort.
Freshmen
Dava Fortunato (Scarsdale, N.Y.),
Allison Jones (Merrick, N.Y.) and
Dana Schneider (Wading River, N.Y.) each got in on the action as well. Fortunato notched her sixth of the season in the 22nd minute off a perfect setup from freshman defender
Destiny Ribadeneyra (Maybrook, N.Y.). Jones fired off a shot from 40 yards out, pinning it just inside the right post to put the Knights up 6-0 in the 29th minute. Schneider's goal looked easy thanks to a great feed from freshman forward
Alex DeSena (Staten Island, N.Y.), and put the Knights up, 7-0, early in the second half.
Jones also picked up an assist for a three-point game, while senior midfielder
Vanessa DiSilvio (Massapequa, N.Y.) and senior forward
Michelle Sabogal (Forest Hills, N.Y.) also dished out assists in the game.
Freshman goalkeeper
Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) stopped six shots en route to her 13th win and eighth shutout of the season. Imani Humphries suffered the loss for Purchase, but made four saves.
The Knights doubled up the Panthers in total shots on the evening, 18-9. They also earned all three of the game's corner-kick opportunities.
The Knights will next play on Wednesday, Nov. 5, when they host a semifinal matchup in the Skyline Conference Tournament. They await the winner of Saturday's quarterfinal game between Sage and Old Westbury. The time for the semifinal contest has yet to be determined.
