Women’s Volleyball Shuts out Yeshiva on Senior Night, 3-0

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team (15-15, 4-1 Skyline) inched closer to a bye in the first round of the Skyline Conference Championship tournament by defeating Yeshiva University (0-13, 0-3 Skyline), 3-0 (25-9, 25-10, 25-14), in Skyline Conference action Wednesday evening at the Kaplan Center.

It was a busy night in the Kaplan Center, as members of Washingtonville Pack 717 from Little Britain Elementary joined the Knights for some volleyball before the match, helped out with pregame warm-ups, and accompanied the Knights during their introductions. It was also Breast Cancer Awareness Night, as part of the Mount Saint Mary athletic department's partnership with Colleges Against Cancer. A 50/50 raffle took place throughout the match to raise money for breast cancer research.

In addition, it was also Senior Night, and the Knights' three seniors, Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.), Brianna Johnston (Breezy Point, N.Y.) and Katie Lynch (Island Park, N.Y.) were each honored prior to the start of the match.

Lynch led the Knights with nine kills on the evening, hit .389 and served up four aces. Candarelli added six kills and seven service aces to lead the team. Johnston picked up a team-high 13 digs and recorded four aces. Sophomore setter Kristen Maddock (Medford, N.Y.) led the team with 15 assists and added another six service aces.

The Knights head into a crucial weekend, as they will take on first-place The Sage Colleges and Purchase College in a Skyline tri-match at Sage. The first match of the day will begin at 10 a.m.
