FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team (0-11, 0-2 Skyline) fell to Farmingdale State (5-5, 2-0 Skyline), 83-59, in Skyline Conference play Saturday afternoon.
The Knights and the Rams battled through the first half with six lead changes. With 8:27 left in the half, senior forward
Jessica Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) hit a jumper to tie the game at 20-20. Farmingdale regained the edge when Jeanette Spillane placed the ball against the glass which was followed by a three-pointer from teammate Andrea Desvignes, sending the Rams up 25-20. Senior forward
Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) responded with a jumper of her own. In the next transition, junior forward
Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) crashed the offensive boards and put it back up, making it a one-point game with 6:34 remaining in the half. The Rams went on an 8-0 run in the next 1:59, putting them up by nine. Farmingdale took a 37-29 lead into the break.
The Mount cut the deficit to seven early in the second half off of a three-pointer from Candarelli. The Knights were within eight points at the 14:56 mark when freshman guard
Tatiana Brown (Bridgeport, Conn.) hit a trey of her own, but that is as close as it would get, as Farmingdale ran away with the second half to solidify an 83-59 victory.
The Knights were led by junior guard
Lauren Romao (Brick, N.J.) and Candarelli, who each scored 13 points. Teammate
Rachel Perrone recorded 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds of her own.
Camille Romero secured the Rams victory with 23 points. Desvignes contributed 16 points and seven rebounds, while Nicky Young scored 14 points.
The Knights return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 15, when they travel to the College of Mount Saint Vincent for a 5:30 p.m. Skyline Conference matchup.
