Sean Barton (Wallkill, N.Y.) picked a great time to tally his first goal of the season, scoring the game-winner in the 70th minute to lift the Knights past Albertus Magnus, 2-1, in a non-conference match-up. With the win the Mount improves to 2-2 on the year, while the Falcons move to 2-1 with their first loss of the year.

The Mount carried a 1-0 lead into the start of the second half, before Albertus Magnus sophomore Linsley Barrett (Shelton, Conn.) tied the game in the 51st minute of play. Barrett started a give and go exchange with senior Stephen Zapata (Hamden, Conn.) at the top of the box and placed a shot past Mount keeper

Sean Lockwood (Manahawkin, N.J.) sent a ball from the top of the box to the far post, where Barton was waiting. Barton collected the ball and drilled into the back of the net for the game-winner.
Darling, who finished with eight saves, stopped a penalty kick with a majestic diving save in the 80th minute to preserve the one-goal lead. Albertus Magnus junior goalkeeper Donato Piroscafo (Naugatuck, Conn.) tallied six saves in the loss.
After a busy opening week of play, the Knights will have the weekend off before returning to action on Wednesday, September 12. In game two of a soccer doubleheader, the Mount will take on New Paltz at 8:00 p.m. at home.
