Knights Fall to Frostburg, 3-0

Box Score

FROSTBURG, Md. - Despite remaining deadlocked, 0-0, at the half, the Knights gave up three second half goals to Frostburg State University in the Championship Game of the FSU Kick Off tournament to fall by a final score of 3-0. With the loss, the Knights move to an even 1-1 on the young season, while the Bobcats improve to 2-0.

Despite holding a clear advantage in shots, the Bobcats remained off the board until the 77th minute of play, as Frostburg senior Shawn Baker (Jefferson, MD.) beat Mount junior goalkeeper Matt Darling (Staatsburg, N.Y.) to put them up 1-0. Less than seven minutes later the Bobcats tacked on their second of the day when junior Chris Jones (California, MD.) directed a free kick from senior Ryan Russell (Waldord, MD.) into the back of the net. Baker added his second goal of the day with under two minutes to play to account for the Bobcats third goal of the game.

The Knights struggled offensively, taking just two shots in comparison to Frostburg's 20. Mount sophomore Mark Maus (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) had the best scoring opportunity for the Knights, placing a shot on net in the 14th minute of play.

Darling was credited with six saves, while Frostburg senior keeper Jack Abiye (Baltimore, MD.) turned away one shot.

The Knights look to bounce back against Vassar on Monday, September 3. Vassar will host the Knights at 4:00 p.m.
