Mocanu Nets 20 as Knights Best Mount Saint Vincent

Box Score BRONX, N.Y. – Behind a game-high 20 points from Mount senior Jen Mocanu (Belford, N.J.), the Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team posted a 54-36 win over the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The Knights advance to 19-3 on the season and 10-1 in conference play. The loss drops the Dolphins to 5-16 overall and 1-10 in the Skyline.

After exchanging early buckets, the Knights exploded on a 13-0 run that put them up 15-2 with 13:45 on the clock. Mocanu was instrumental in the run, adding eight of the 13 points. Down by nine points, 17-8, at the 11:07 mark, the Dolphins used three consecutive baskets to pull to within four.

Only up by four, Mount junior Becky Metzger (Point Pleasant, N.J.) knocked down a three –pointer and the Knights used a 6-0 run to race ahead, 24-13. With time ticking down under the five minute mark, both teams struggled to advance on the scoreboard. Mount senior Amanda Horvers (Kingston, N.Y.) nailed one from downtown with under a minute to play to move the score to 30-15 heading into halftime.

With four minutes elapsed in the second, Mocanu wove through traffic and banked in a shot to give the Knights their largest lead of the night, 36-16. A stalwart defensive effort by the Mount held the Dolphins scoreless until the 11:17 mark. The Knights limited the Dolphins to shooting just 24.0-percent from the field as they cruised to a 54-36 win.

Leading the Knights with 20 points was Mocanu. Horvers added seven points, while junior Charneice McCullough (Wyandanch, N.Y.) led the rebounding effort with seven.

College of Mount Saint Vincent sophomore Desiree Rosa (Dumont, N.J.) scored 10 points and was the only Dolphin to reach double-digits. Dolphin senior Kara McNish (Hawthorne, N.J.) dominated the glass and grabbed a game-high 13 boards.

With just three games to go in regulation play, the Knights will face St. Joseph's College on Thursday, February 9. The Knights will host the Golden Eagles at 6:00 p.m., with a mens game to follow.
