ALBANY, N.Y. - After battling Sage to a scoreless draw less than two weeks ago, Mount senior
Matt Pagano (Mahopac, N.Y.) scored a first half goal to lift the Knights over Sage, 1-0, in the Skyline Conference semifinals. Now boasting an overall record of 11-7-1, the Knights look forward to their first Skyline Championship game appearance, while the Gators end their season with a record of 12-5-1.
With the first half coming to a close, the Knights were awarded a free kick opportunity following a Sage foul. Pagano drilled the free kick into the bottom left corner of net with 43:12 elapsed in the game to put the Mount up 1-0. The goal proved to be the game-winner and is Pagano's fourth of the year.
The Gators held a 7-5 advantage in shots in the second half, but Mount junior goalkeeper
Matt Darling (Staatsburg, N.Y.) was up to the test. Darling finished with seven saves, while Sage keeper freshman TJ Zehner (Beacon, N.Y.) recorded four saves.
In their first Skyline Championship appearance, the Knights will face the Golden Eagles from St. Joseph's. The game will be played on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's College in Patchogue, N.Y.
