NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Sophomore
Tara McDermott (Tewksbury, N.J.) netted a goal just one minute and forty-four seconds into the game as the Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team earned their second win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Albertus Magnus College. The Knights improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Falcons fall to 1-1.
Less than two minutes into the game, sophomore
Sara Sheehan (Beacon, N.Y.) set up an excellent scoring opportunity for the Knights as she played the ball ahead to McDermott in the box. McDermott snuck a shot past Falcon goalkeeper Sarah Boudreau to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. Mount goalkeeper sophomore
Jacquelyn Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) turned away four shots in the first half to keep the Falcons off the board.
A goal by senior
Erin McKeon (Waterbury, Conn.) to start the second half sent the Mount to a 2-0 advantage. Both teams would remain scoreless in the closing forty-one minutes of play. Several Knights put in a strong effort at the defensive end of the field, most notably junior
Lindsey Oro (Holtsville, N.Y.) who leads a defensive that has yet to give up a goal this season. Mancini finished with six saves.
The Knights will return to the road for a non-conference game against Rutgers-Newark. Kickoff is at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2011.
