NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College junior
Matt Pagano (Mahopac, N.Y.) scored his third goal in as many games to lift the Knights to a 1-0 victory over Bard College on Wednesday evening. The Mount is now 3-3-1 overall, while the Raptors dropped to 2-6-0.
After a scoreless first half, the Knights took control in the early minutes of the second. In the 59th minute, Pagano found some space in the Bard box and ripped a shot to the top corner at the near post. The Mount bench exploded in celebration as Pagano streaked down the sideline to his teammates.
The Mount Saint Mary defense tightened up down the stretch, allowing the Raptors little room to operate in the closing minutes. A save by sophomore goalkeeper
Matt Darling (Staatsburg, N.Y.) in the 83rd minute would put the finishing touches on the shutout. Darling finished with three saves.
Bard senior goalkeeper Deven Connelly (High Falls, N.Y.) played well in defeat, making seven stops.
The Knights open Skyline play on Saturday and will host Purchase College at 12:00 p.m.
