NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball opened their home season with a convincing, three-set win over the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Tuesday evening. The Knights improved to 2-8 overall, while the Mariners dropped to 5-5.
Freshman
Taylor Woegens (Bogota, N.J.) finished with a team-high nine kills and also tallied five aces to go along with a pair of blocks. Senior
Teresa Sorrentino (Bellerose, N.Y.) notched seven kills and a pair of blocks, while junior
Lauren Halverson (Patchogue, N.Y.) racked up 26 assists. Junior
Mary Ann Raftery (Long Beach, N.Y.) had a nice all-around night, totaling six kills, two aces, and eight digs.
The Knights won by set scores of 25-17, 25-21, and 25-21.
Up next for the Mount is a Skyline Conference tri-match on Saturday, September 24 in the Kaplan Center. The Knights will take on the College of Mount Saint Vincent at 11:00 a.m. and NYU-Poly at 3:00 p.m.
