PURCHASE, N.Y.-The Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team delivered a 73-28 win over Purchase College on Wednesday evening. The Skyline Conference win keeps the Knights unbeaten in conference play at 17-0 and moves them to 22-2 on the season. The loss drops the Panthers to 8-16 overall and 7-10 in Skyline play.
The Mount took a commanding lead in the first half of play and never looked back en route to their seventeenth Skyline victory of the season. Mount sophomore
Charneice McCullough (Wyandanch, N.Y.) drained a shot from behind the three-point arc at the 11:04 minute mark to extend the lead to 19-9. The Panthers would remain scoreless for the remainder of the half and the Knights raced away with a 34-0 run. McCullough's three-pointer was one of five three-pointers made in the final eleven minutes of play by the Knights. Junior
Amanda Horvers (Kingston, N.Y.) and classmate
Jen Mocanu (Belford, N.Y.) each knocked down two from behind the arc during the run. Purchase shot just 14.8% from the floor in the first half of play and the Knights extended held a 50-9 lead going into the locker room.
Sophomore
Kate Hartnett (Floral Park, N.Y.) converted a free throw attempt with 16:11 remaining in the game to give the Knights a 48 point lead (57-9). Purchase freshman Jess Lindsay broke the scoring drought with 14:06 left in the game when she knocked down a jumper. The Mount netted 22 points off of turnovers throughout the game. Mocanu once again lead the Knights with a game-high 15 points and 3 steals. Horvers finished the evening with 13 points, nine of which were the result of three-pointers. Hartnett chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds and senior
Jess Tice (Altamont, N.Y.) added 10 points and 8 rebounds. Sophomore
Becky Metzger (Point Pleasant, N.J.) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for the Knights.
Panther freshman Jessica Perrone matched Mocanu's scoring effort with 15 points in addition to completing a double-double with 10 rebounds.
The Knights have already clinched the Skyline Conference regular season title and will be the top seed in next week's conference tournament. The Mount will host St. Joseph's College in their regular season finale on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
