Sage Throttles Mount

TROY, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's soccer team fell to Sage by a score of 6-1 in Skyline Conference action on Tuesday evening.  The Knights dropped to 4-6-1 overall and to 2-3-0 in the league, while the Gators bumped up to 7-5-1 overall and 3-2-0 in the Skyline Conference.

Sage jumped out to an early lead as sophomore Chris Peralta (Wyandanch, N.Y.) converted his shot off the opening kick and scored just 24 seconds into play. Mount Saint Mary tied the action as sophomore midfielder Brandon Mincher (Bayport, N.Y.) converted a feed from junior Christian Redl (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) in the 23rd minute.

Sage sophomore Wesley Finch (Newburgh, N.Y.) scored the next goal, the game-winner, on a pass from sophomore defender Nick Mauro (Bristol, Conn.) at 35:08.  Finch added another goal and continues to lead Sage in scoring this fall as he has a personal-best eight goals and 20 points.

Sophomore Evan Southworth (Newburgh, N.Y.) opened the second half scoring with his fifth goal of the year and won the battle of the Southworth brothers on Tuesday. His older brother, Brian Southworth (Newburgh, N.Y.) is a junior defender with the Mount and the 2011 meeting marks the second time the brothers have squared off against one another after they met in 2010 and played to a 0-0 overtime draw.

Sage's freshman goalie Trevor Paddy (Brooklyn, N.Y.) made four saves and shared time on goal with sophomore Cory Gransbury (Round Top, N.Y.).  Mount sophomore Matt Darling (Staatsburg, N.Y.) made five saves in the contest for the Knights.

Up next for the Knights is a home date with NYU-Poly.  The Mount will host the Fighting Blue Jays on Saturday, October 8 at 2:30 p.m. on Kaplan Field.
