Knights Enjoy Scoring Spree Against Mount Saint Vincent

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Snapping a four-game losing streak, the Mount Saint Mary College men's soccer team defeated the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday by a final score of 7-0.  The Knights improve to 5-7-1 overall (2-4-0 Skyline), while the Dolphins fall to 1-7-0 (1-5-0 Skyline).

After junior Ryan Folken (Centereach, N.Y.) opened the scoring in the 35th minute, junior Sean Barton (Wallkill, N.Y.) scored his first collegiate goal just 32 seconds later to give the Knights a 2-0 advantage.  Sophomore Brandon Mincher (Bayport, N.Y.) assisted on both goals.  Freshman Adam Palumbo (East Islip, N.Y.) also tallied his first career goal, putting home a feed from junior Matt Pagano (Mahopac, N.Y.) to make the score at the half, 3-0.

Mincher tallied his third assist of the night when he set Pagano free up the middle for a goal in the 48th minute to make it 4-0.  Barton added a second goal when he put home a rebound in the 68th minute and then completed the hat trick with an unassisted marker in the 79th minute.  Barton also assisted on a goal by junior Christian Redl (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) in the 78th minute.

Sophomore goalkeeper Matt Darling (Staatburg, N.Y.) didn't need to make a save and was credited with his fifth shutout.  Darling now holds the all-time school record for shutouts in a season.

The Knights will face St. Joseph's College on Saturday in Patchogue.  The Golden Eagles are 5-0-0 in Skyline play this season and stand alone at the top of the conference standings.  Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
