OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Juniors Jen Mocanu (Belford, N.J.) and Amanda Horvers (Kingston, N.Y.) combined for 33 points as Mount Saint Mary College defeated SUNY College at Old Westbury, 59-49, in Skyline Conference action on Saturday afternoon. The 24th-ranked Knights moved to 17-2 overall (13-0 Skyline), while the Panthers fell to 12-4 overall (8-3 Skyline).

After a defensive opening ten minutes, the Knights took control of the game by way of the three-pointer. Horvers knocked down a triple at 9:27, extending the lead to five, 15-10. Junior Natalie Garbie (Bayville, N.J.) followed up with a long ball at the 7:25 mark, and Horvers connected again with 5:24 remaining to cap a 9-0 run and extend the advantage to 21-10. Mount Saint Mary would lead, 30-18, at the half.

Old Westbury would cut the deficit to single digits in the opening minutes of the second half, but Mount sophomore Kate Hartnett (Floral Park, N.Y.) answered with back-to-back buckets in the paint to push the lead to thirteen. The Knights would lead by double digits the rest of the way, ultimately settling for a ten-point win.

It was a sloppy effort from both sides as the teams combined for 62 turnovers. The Knights shot just 37.8-percent from the field, but limited the Panthers to a 32.8-percent performance.

Horvers made 5-of-10 attempts from the field (2-of-5 from three) and tied for a game-high with 17 points. Mocanu added seven rebounds and six steals to her 16-point effort, while Hartnett completed a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.

Freshman DeAndra Scott (Queens, N.Y.) led Old Westbury with 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Freshman Kim Weathers (Wyandanch, N.Y.), the conference's leading scorer at 21.9 points per game, was limited to just 11 points on just 4-of-14 from the floor. Weathers also committed a game-high nine turnovers.

The Knights will have a week off before heading to Farmingdale State College for a second showdown with the second-place Rams. The tip is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 5.
