Nine in a Row for Knights

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Sophomore Natalie Garbie (Bayville, N.J.) led all scorers with 19 points to help Mount Saint Mary College to a 98-21 victory over Yeshiva University on Wednesday evening. It was the ninth win in a row for the Knights (20-4, 16-1 Skyline).

Mount Saint Mary scored 18 of the game's first 20 points and cruised to a 50-7 advantage at the half. The Knights limited Yeshiva to just two field goals in the first half, while connecting on 22-of-34 attempts (64.7-percent) at their end of the floor. Garbie shot 7-of-9 in the first half alone and finished the opening twenty minutes with 15 points.

The story was pretty similar in the second half, with the Maccabees connecting on just four field goals and the Knights rolling their way towards 100 points. A three-pointer by freshman Charneice McCullough (Wyandanch, N.Y.) with under a minute to play made the final score, 98-21.

On top of Garbie's 19, Mount Saint Mary placed four other players into double figures. Senior Shannon Sangster (Syracuse, N.Y.) was the only starter to get to double digits and scored 10 points in just 18 minutes. Sophomore Rachel Russo (Trumbull, Conn.) was the next highest scorer behind Garbie with 14, while McCullough and sophomore Bethany Deer (Guilderland, N.Y.) each joined Sangster with 10 points.

The Mount shot 58.8-percent for the game, while limiting Yeshiva to just 13.6-percent. The effort will certainly aid the Knights in the NCAA statistical rankings. Entering the week's games, Mount Saint Mary led the country in scoring defense (allowing 43.2 points per game) and field goal percentage defense (26.8-percent).

Up next for the Mount is a date with undefeated Farmingdale State College, in what may be a preview of the Skyline Conference championship game next weekend. The Knights will host the Rams at 2:00 p.m. in the Kaplan Center on Saturday, February 20.
