NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Thanks to a game-high 13 points off the bench from junior
Beth Deer (Guilderland, N.Y.), Mount Saint Mary College opened their Skyline Conference season with a 64-31 defeat of the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday evening. The Knights are now 3-1 overall, while the Dolphins fell to 1-3.
Mount Saint Mary scored fifteen of the game's first sixteen points and would lead by double digits for the remainder of the contest. The Knights carried a 20-point advantage into the break and pushed the lead to as many as 34 late in the second half.
Deer connected on 5-of-8 from the floor and knocked down her only three-pointer of the night to finish with 13 points. Junior
Amanda Horvers (Kingston, N.Y.) and sophomore
Kate Hartnett (Floral Park, N.Y.) each chipped in with 10 points. Senior
Jess Tice (Altamont, N.Y.) tallied six points, eight rebounds, four assists, and a pair of blocks.
Mount Saint Vincent failed to place a player in double figures – freshman Sarah Kluth (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and junior Kara McNish (Hawthorne, N.J.) each finished with a team-high eight points. McNish also added a team-high seven boards.
It was a rough shooting night for both squads, as Mount Saint Mary clocked in at 36.5-percent for the contest while limiting Mount Saint Vincent to just 27.5-percent. The Knights also struggled from the line, connecting on just 14-of-26 attempts.
