St. Joseph’s Shuts Down Mount

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's soccer team hoped to win their second conference game in a row in a match against the St. Joseph's College Golden Eagles on Saturday.   The swarming defense of the Golden Eagles made this impossible, however, as the Knights fell, 3-0.  The Golden Eagles move to 9-6-1 overall and 5-3-1 in conference play as the Knights fall to 1-12-2 overall and to 1-5-2 in the conference.

In the twenty-fifth minute of play, St. Joseph's senior Kamil Sadowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) fired a laser of a shot off the cross bar that hit off of the head of keeper Ron Bonilla (White Plains, N.Y.) and into the back of the net.  Sophomore John Dettori (Bay Shore, N.Y.) of the Golden Eagles scored the last two goals; first out of a scramble in front of the net and then from twenty yards out in the final minute.

Mount Saint Mary sophomore Kevin Ryan (Bay Shore, N.Y.) was the only player with a shot on goal for the Mount.  His free kick in the 43rd minute forced sophomore Peter Ryan (Sayville, N.Y.) to make his only save of the afternoon for St. Joseph's.   Bonilla recorded eight saves for the Mount.

Freshman Brandon Mincher (Bayport, N.Y.) and junior Mike Del Rosso (Washingtonville, N.Y.) played strong games in the midfield for the Knights, but were still unable to spark the offense.  The Mount finished with just eleven shots and only the one shot on goal.

The Knights will travel to Annandale-on-Hudson for a conference game against Bard College on Thursday, October 21 at 7:00 p.m.
