Mount Drops Skyline Opener

NEWBURGH, NY – In their Skyline Conference opener, the Mount Saint Mary College men's soccer team came up short in a 1-0 loss to Bard College. The Blue Knights dropped to 3-2-1 overall while the Raptors improved to 4-3-1.

Bard senior Jake Magee (Taos, N.M.) tallied the game-winner in the 71st minute. A long pass from senior Erik Badger (Ellington, Conn.) found the feet of Magee who knocked it past a diving goalkeeper for the only goal of the contest.

Mount Saint Mary sophomore Francesco Marando (Slate Hill, N.Y.) had the two best chances to score for the Blue Knights. In the 27th minute, a shot by sophomore Mike Del Rosso (Washingtonville, N.Y.) rebounded off the goalkeeper to Marando who bounced a shot off the post. In the 76th minute, Marando created a little space at the top of the box and fired an attempt just over the crossbar.

Bard sophomore Devon Connelly (High Falls, N.Y.) needed to make just two saves to preserve the shutout for the Raptors. Senior Paul Aries (Nashua, N.H.) made seven saves for the Mount.

With only a day to recover, the Blue Knights will head to Old Westbury on Saturday. The game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
