NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's soccer teamed closed out the season with a 9-1 victory over Yeshiva University on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Knights finish the year at 7-8-1 overall and at 3-5-0 in the Skyline Conference. The Maccabees finish at 3-10-0.
Sophomore
Francesco Marando (Slate Hill, N.Y.) tallied the first two goals for the Mount, scoring in the 20th minute and the 35th minute. Freshman
Drew Altieri (Voorheesville, N.Y.) was credited with an assist on both goals and senior
Brian Strock (Wallkill, N.Y.) picked up an assist on the first of Marando's goals.
Altieri scored his first collegiate goal in the 35th minute, bodying home a cross from the left side off the foot of Marando. Sophomore
Ryan Folken (Centereach, N.Y.) made in 4-0 in the 39th minute, putting in a cross from junior
Stephen Reinhardt (Brewster, N.Y.).
Senior
Tomasz Michalak (Newington, Conn.) added on goal in the 44th minute to make it 6-0. Michalak started and played in every one of the team's games during his four years on campus.
Sophomore Mike Del Rosso (Washingtonville, N.Y.), senior
Jack Benenati (Dix Hills, N.Y.), and junior
Chris Boydston (Highland Mills, N.Y.) added on goals in the second half to make the final score 9-1.
Senior goalkeeper
Paul Aries (Nashua, N.H.) picked up the win for the Blue Knights.
The team's six seniors, Aries, Benenati, Michalak, Strock,
John Como (Wingdale, N.Y.), and
Paul Zegers (Levittown, N.Y.), were honored during half time.
