NEWBURGH, NY – The Mount Saint Mary College men's soccer team snapped a four game losing streak on Tuesday night, defeating Yeshiva University by a score of 3-0. The Blue Knights improved to 2-5 overall and to 1-0 in the Skyline Conference.
With the game still tied at 0-0 in the closing minutes of the first half, senior
Jon Gasiewski (New Milford, Conn.) finally put the Blue Knights on the board at the 43:08 mark. Yeshiva goalkeeper Daniel Rosenthal made ten saves in the first half alone to keep the Maccabees in the game.
In the 72nd minute, junior
John Como (Wingdale, N.Y.) added some insurance for the Blue Knights as he found the back of the net off a rebound. Senior
Jon Giordano (Newburgh, N.Y.) finished off the scoring for the Mount, beating the keeper with a long shot in the 86th minute.
Junior
Paul Aries (Nashua, N.H.) made five saves to earn his first shutout of the season. Rosenthal finished with 17 saves for the Maccabees.
Up next for the Mount is a road game at Maritime College on Saturday, September 27. The Skyline Conference matchup is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start.
