BROOKLYN, NY – On the opening weekend of Skyline Conference women's volleyball, Mount Saint Mary College split a pair of matches. The Blue Knights defeated Purchase, 3-0, and then lost to Polytechnic, 3-0, to move to 3-9 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Against Purchase, the Mount held on for a 25-22 victory in the first set and then eased to 25-16 and 25-17 set wins to complete the sweep of the Panthers. Freshman Jackie Nadeau (Uniondale, N.Y.) led the team with 6 kills and five aces. Freshman
Courtney Kenney (Hicksville, N.Y.) totaled 5 kills and 7 digs. Junior
Liz Karcher (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and freshman
Teresa Sorrentino (Bellerose, N.Y.) each had four kills.
Polytechnic took two close sets (25-22, 25-21) to open the second match and then rolled to a 25-14 win in the third set to defeat the Blue Knights. Kenney led the team with 9 kills and 13 digs. Sorrentino had 5 kills and 11 digs while freshman
Heather Schaeffer (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) racked up 10 digs.
Mount Saint Mary travels to Misericordia University for their next match on Thursday, September 25. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
