TROY, NY – While limiting the Sage Colleges to just 21.7-percent shooting from the field, the Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team walked away with an 83-33 victory on Tuesday evening in the Skyline Conference opener for both teams. The Blue Knights improved to 3-3 on the year while the Gators dropped to 0-4.
The Mount struck early, scoring twenty of the game's first twenty-five points to take a 20-5 lead just eight minutes in. The Blue Knights continued to roll in the first half, led by 15 points from junior
Meredith Paggi (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.), and carried a 47-13 advantage into the locker room.
In the second half, Mount Saint Mary extended their lead to as many as fifty-three before eventually settling in for a fifty point victory. Paggi finished with a game-high 24 points and junior
Shannon Sangster (Syracuse, N.Y.) posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Junior
Catie Biordi (Beacon, N.Y.) contributed 10 points and freshman
Rachel Russo (Trumbull, Conn.) came off the bench to score 9 points and collect 6 boards.
The Blue Knights shot 43.6-percent from the floor and out-rebounded the Gators, 66-24. Eleven different players recorded points for the Mount.
Mount Saint Mary returns home this weekend to host the College of Mount Saint Vincent in what should be a strong early season test for the Blue Knights. The game is scheduled as the first game of a double-header on Saturday, December 6 and is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
