NEWBURGH, NY – Leading 4-0 at the half, the Mount Saint Mary College men's soccer team earned a forfeit victory on Wednesday evening when the College of Mount Saint Vincent was left without enough players to continue. The Blue Knights improve to 6-7 overall and to 5-1 in the Skyline Conference, while the Dolphins drop to 2-13 overall and 2-4 in league play.
Senior
Jon Gasiewski (New Milford, Conn.) scored a pair of goals in the first half. The first came after a perfect feed from sophomore
Chris Boydston (Monroe, N.Y.). Gasiewski settled the pass and slipped a shot inside the right post to make the score 1-0. The second came on a corner kick from senior
Nick Morse (New Milford, Conn.). Junior
John Como (Wingdale, N.Y.) deflected the corner across to Gasiewski who finished the play nicely.
Senior
Brian Strock (Wallkill, N.Y.) chipped in with a free kick goal in the 36th minute. From five yards outside the box, Strock nailed a perfect shot that beat the keeper easily.
Como also contributed a goal of his own, putting home a pass from senior
Francis Amarteifio (Accra, Ghana) in the 40th minute.
Unfortunately for the goal scorers, the statistics will not count because the game did not reach the seventy minute mark.
Up next for Mount Saint Mary is a road trip to Polytechnic. The Skyline Conference game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25.
