Blue Knights Oust Purchase in Overtime

NEWBURGH, NY - The Mount Saint Mary College men's soccer team picked up a crucial Skyline Conference victory on Saturday, defeating Purchase College 2-1 in double overtime.  The Blue Knights moved to 5-7 overall and to 4-1 in the Skyline while the Panthers dropped to 3-8 overall and to 0-5 in the conference.

Senior Francis Amartefio (Accra, Ghana) scored the game-winning goal in the third minute of the second overtime.  Trailing 1-0 in the first half, senior Jack Benanati (Dix Hills, N.Y.) tied the game with a goal just thirty-three seconds before the end of the first half.

Junior Paul Aries (Nashua, N.H.) went the whole way for the Blue Knights in goal, making three saves to pick up the win.

The Mount outshot Purchase 15-12.

The Blue Knights return to action on Thursday as they host the College of Mount Saint Vincent.  The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start on Kaplan Field.
