Nine in a Row for the Mount

Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. - Junior Meredith Paggi (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) scored 19 points while recording 8 rebounds and 7 steals, as the Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team defeated Bard College, 86-45, in Skyline Conference action Wednesday night. The Blue Knights extended their winning streak to nine games and moved to 13-1 overall. At 7-0 against conference foes, they remain tied atop the Skyline standings with Farmingdale. For the Raptors, the loss was their sixth in a row as they tumbled to 5-7 overall and 1-6 inside the conference.

Mount Saint Mary never trailed in the game and used a 10-2 run midway through the first half to take a commanding ten point lead. The Blue Knights would build their advantage for the remainder of the period, cruising into half time with a 42-19 cushion.

Still leading by twenty-three (66-43) with seven minutes to play in the game, the Blue Knights rattled off a 20-2 run to close the game and make the final score, 86-45.

In only 24 minutes of playing time, Paggi shot 8-for-13 from the field for 19 points, her second highest output of the season. The 8 rebounds tied for the team high and her 7 steals were the most by any Mount player in a game this year.

Junior Brittany King (Cold Spring, N.Y.) and senior Jackie Markert (Voorheesville, N.Y.) each had 11 points for the Blue Knights, and senior Vanessa Lawson (Kingston, N.Y.) joined them in double figures with 10. Sophomore Shannon Sangster (Syracuse, N.Y.) had 6 points and tied Paggi for the game-high in rebounds with 8.

Bard freshman Blaire Modlenhauer (Albany, Mo.) put on a clinic at the free throw line, sinking all ten of her attempts on the way to a 16 point performance. She also had a game-high 12 rebounds. Sophomore Molly Malone (Whitefish Bay, Wisc.) was the only other player for the Raptors to reach double figures, finishing with 11.

Mount Saint Mary shot a blistering 60.7-percent from the field in the second half and finished at 52.4-percent for the game. The Blue Knights held Bard to just 14-of-54 (25.9-percent) from the field.

Undefeated conference record still in tact, the Blue Knights head to this weekend's much-anticipated showdown with Farmingdale State College. Currently tied for first in the standings, the two teams will tip-off at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 19 in Farmingdale, N.Y. Bard heads to Old Westbury on Saturday for a game that is also a 2:00 p.m. start.
