Farmingdale, N.Y. – Playing a man down for almost the entire game, the Mount Saint Mary College men's soccer lost their third straight Skyline Conference game on Saturday with a 2-0 loss to Farmingdale State College. The Blue Knights dropped to 3-7 overall and 0-3 in Skyline play while the Rams got to 6-6 overall and a perfect 3-0 inside the Skyline.
The Blue Knights were forced to play with only ten men when a red card was issued in the fifth minute. Farmingdale took full advantage of the extra player, scoring a goal in each half on their way to a 2-0 win.
Rams junior midfielder Bryant Rodriguez (Elmont, N.Y.) scored the first goal and eventual game-winner in the 31st minute of play. Following a shot from another Farmingdale player, Rodriguez put back a rebound off the Blue Knights goaltender.
With 15 minutes left to play in the game, junior midfielder Thomas Mueller (Babylon, N.Y.) added an insurance goal following a quick pass in front from freshman midfielder Paul Leite (North Massapequa, N.Y.).
Senior Kyle Reiss (Oxford, N.Y.) made five saves for the Blue Knights in defeat.
Despite the 0-3 record inside the Skyline, the conference season for Mount Saint Mary College is far from over. All three losses are to the three teams currently tied for first place, and the Blue Knights still have six games remaining, plenty of time improve their positioning and qualify for the postseason tournament.
