Throggs Neck, New York - The Mount Saint Mary College men's soccer team was eliminated from the Skyline Conference Tournament Tuesday night, dropping a 3-1 decision to Maritime College. The Blue Knights finish their season at 7-10-1, while the Privateers (13-7) advanced to the semifinals of the tournament. Third seeded Maritime will take on second seeded Old Westbury on Thursday in Old Westbury, N.Y.
Junior forward Mayer Nelson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) opened the scoring in the 26th minute on an assist from junior Emilio Andino (Roselle, N.J.). For Nelson, it was his 22nd goal of the season, placing him among the nation's leaders in goals per game.
Eight minutes later, freshman Patrick Masango (Baltimore, Md.) tallied his 21st goal of the season to give Maritime a two goal cushion. Masango entered the game as the thirteenth most efficient scorer in the nation.
Sophomore John Como (Wingdale, N.Y.) would spark the Blue Knights in the 41st minute, bringing them back to within one with his second goal of the season. Senior Devin Klotz (Riverton, N.J.) was credited with an assist on the play.
In the second half, Nelson would end any thoughts of a comeback by the Mount with his 23rd goal of the season. His tally in the 65th minute put the Privateers ahead, 3-1, and ended the scoring for the night.
Senior Matt Kavanaugh (Penfield, N.Y.) made four saves to pick up the win for Maritime. Senior Kyle Reiss (Oxford, N.Y.) made nine saves for the Blue Knights and was credited with the loss.
