Entering his 33rd season as a head coach at Mount Saint Mary College, J. Randall Ognibene remains one of the most successful Division III basketball coaches of all time. In the most recent edition of the NCAA Record Book, he ranks tied for 6th on the list of wins among active Division III coaches with 588. With an overall record of 588-254, Ognibene ranks tied for 9th all-time in wins at four-year Division III schools.

During his tenure, Ognibene has created a top-notch women's basketball program at the Mount. Since the beginning of athletics record-keeping at the school in 1991, the Knights have averaged 21.8 wins per season during the 22 years. MSMC has recorded 17 20-win seasons and have currently won 20 games in 11 consecutive seasons. In addition, Ognibene has guided the Mount to five Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament appearances, one ECAC Championship in 1997-98, and three second place finishes at the ECAC Tournament.

Since the inception of the Skyline Conference in 1999-00, the Knights have captured all but one of the conference championships, losing the crown only in 2009-10. Each of the last 13 seasons has resulted in a trip to the NCAA National Tournament. Mount Saint Mary has advanced to the second round of the NCAA bracket six times (2000-01, 2004-05, 2007-08, 2008-09, 2010-11, and 2011-12).  In 2012, the Knights defeated Gwynedd-Mercy College in the opening round before falling to host Lebanon Valley College in the second round.

Ognibene has amassed an incredible 163-6 record in Skyline Conference play plus a 23-1 record in the Skyline tournament.  Nine times he has been named the Skyline Conference Coach of the Year, including his most recent award in 2011-12.  Ognibene was named the Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 1992-93 and 1995-96.

Ognibene earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from SUNY Geneseo in 1975 and a master's degree in physical education/sports psychology from Louisiana State University in 1979.

A native of Gasport, New York, Ognibene currently resides in Newburgh, New York, with his wife, Carlin.
