Mount Saint Mary College Head Men’s Basketball Coach Ryan Kadlubowski has announced Matt Chalupa as his new assistant coach. Chalupa, who most recently served as an assistant coach with the National Basketball Association Developmental League’s (NBA D-League) Reno Bighorns, will assist in all aspects of the Knight’s program.

Chalupa, a standout at Division III Grinnell College, served as an assistant with Pioneers during the 2014-15 season. In his one year on staff in Iowa, Chalupa helped the team to a 15-10 overall record and a runner-up finish in the conference championship tournament.

Assisting with the day-to-day running of the program, Chalupa coordinated on-campus recruiting visits and helped land the two of the program’s top three prospects in the 2015 class. Chalupa also monitored academic progress within the program, setting up support programs as needed.

Following a year on staff at Grinnell, Chalupa moved on to become an assistant in the NBA D-League in Reno during the 2015-16 season. While on David Arseneault, Jr’s coaching staff, he put together a 15-3 scout record for the Bighorns and helped lead the team to a 33-17 record and the top seed in the Western Conference.

Chalupa evaluated and broke day game film while in Reno and organized and ran 18 player development sessions throughout the season.

In addition to an impressive coaching resume, Chalupa was a four year letter winner and four-time All-Academic selection while at Grinnell. He was named captain during the 2011-12 season and upon graduation in 2012, Chalupa spent two years in Guinea with the Peace Corps, teaching entrepreneurship courses and coaching the Fabik Basketball Club to a first ever playoff berth by a team outside of the capital.

Chalupa graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Grinnell in 2012 and is working towards completion of a Mater in Business Administration at Fort Hayes State University.
