Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary took on Hunter College for a road doubleheader this Tuesday. The Knights got off to an explosive start on offense, taking advantage of four errors from the Hawks' defense. The Mount would go through their batting order twice in the inning, scoring nine runs. An RBI double from
Grace Terpening got the Knights on the board first, then RBI singles from
Allie Kenney and
Dana Donnelly helped them get out to a 9-0 lead. In the following inning, back-to-back singles from
Samantha Stallone and
Grace Reich put two runners on for
Allie Kenney, who blasted a three-run shot to extend their lead to 12-0. A double for Hunter got them on the board in the bottom of the 2nd, but this would be the only run allowed by
Grace MacDonald today.
The Knights would add another run in the top of the 4th after a sacrifice from
Angela Christopher to score
Grace Reich, who started off the inning with a leadoff single.
Peyton Dost would relieve MacDonald on the mound in the 4th inning and would even record her first-career hit in the 5th inning. Hunter would gain a little bit of momentum in the bottom of the 5th by scoring three runs, but they needed at least five runs if they were to get out of the mercy rule window. Mount Saint Mary would come away with a 13-4 victory in game one.

Game 2
The Basics
Score: Mount Saint Mary College 4, Hunter 5
Records: Mount Saint Mary College (9-13, 5-1 Skyline) | Hunter (10-20, 4-0)
Rapid Recap
After winning game one, the Knights looked to clinch the series sweep of the Hawks with a win in game two.
Dana Donnelly got the ball on the mound this game, as this match was much more of a pitcher's duel to start. Neither team would get a base runner until the bottom of the 3rd inning, let alone record a hit. A leadoff double from
Autumn Strobach in the top of the 4th is the exact thing the Knights needed to get an offensive spark.
Dana Donnelly would hit an RBI single in the next at-bat to score Strobach, but she would get thrown out at second trying to stretch the hit to a double.
Hunter would find an answer of their own on offense, as they tied the game up 1-1 in the bottom half of the 4th. A clutch two-RBI double from
Angela Christopher scored both
Grace Reich and
Grace Terpening to give the Mount a 3-1 lead. Christopher has been huge for the Knights at the end of the order in the past few games with big hits late in games to give them the lead. In the top of the 7th,
Michaela Manger would hit a leadoff triple to put herself in scoring position. Later in the inning, another RBI hit from
Angela Christopher extended the Mount Saint Mary lead to 4-1. In the bottom of the 7th, the Knights needed just three outs to win the game, but Hunter would rally back to tie it at 4-4 and force extra innings. The Mount was unable to score in the top of the 8th, then in the bottom half of the inning, the Hawks would hit a walkoff single with the bases loaded to win 5-4.
