Softball Sweeps Old Westbury for Two Key Skyline Wins

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College softball team swept Old Westbury for two key Skyline Conference wins.

Game 1
The Basics

Score: Mount Saint Mary College 7, Old Westbury 2
Records: Mount Saint Mary College (7-12, 4-1 Skyline) | Old Westbury (10-7, 3-2)

Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary got back into Skyline Conference play as they took on Old Westbury at home. Knights ace Grace MacDonald took the mound and was able to get out of a jam in the 1st inning with runners on first and third. The Mount scored first in the bottom half of the 2nd inning, loading the bases with singles from MacDonald, Samantha Stallone, and Grace Reich. Allie Kenney would hit an RBI single to center field, then an error from the Panthers' outfield allowed another run for the Knights to score, making it 2-0. Old Westbury responded with a run of their own in the top of the 3rd to cut their deficit down to one run.

Both pitchers seemed to have gained control of the game, not allowing a run until the 6th inning. The Panthers would lead off the inning with a solo homer to tie the game up and get them back into the game. The first two batters would be retired in the bottom of the 6th inning, but back-to-back walks drawn by Grace Reich and Allie Kenney sparked the Knights' offense that had just one hit up until this point outside of the 2nd inning. A clutch hit from freshman Angela Christopher scored Reich on an RBI single to left center field. From here, RBI singles from Autumn Strobach and Dana Donnelly, followed by a two-RBI double from Chloe Graham, gave the Mount a commanding 7-2 lead. Grace MacDonald would throw a complete first game as she helped lead the Knights to a 7-2 game one win over Old Westbury.

Game 2
The Basics

Score: Mount Saint Mary College 7, Old Westbury 2
Records: Mount Saint Mary College (8-12, 5-1 Skyline) | Old Westbury (10-8, 3-3)

Rapid Recap
The Knights looked to win game two for a sweep, looking to Grace MacDonald once again on the mound, as she leads the Skyline in innings pitched with 82.1 innings pitched so far this year. Mount Saint Mary would get off to a great start in the 1st inning, loading the bases with singles from Autumn Strobach, Chloe Graham, and MacDonald. An error from the Panthers allowed a run to score, then an RBI single from Samantha Stallone gave the Mount a 2-0 lead. A passed ball in the top of the 2nd got Old Westbury on the board to make it 2-1.

The Knights would score again in the bottom of the 4th after a two-out RBI single from Dana Donnelly scored Autumn Strobach to extend their lead to 3-1. Old Westbury would once again respond to the Mount scoring, loading the bases in the top of the 5th inning. The Knights would stop the bleeding after only one run allowed as they still led 3-2. Just like game one, Mount Saint Mary would load the bases in the bottom of the 6th with singles from Grace Reich and Autumn Strobach to go along with an infield error from the Panthers, allowing Angela Christopher to reach base. Another RBI single from Dana Donnelly scored a run, then a bases-clearing double from Chloe Graham gave them a 7-2 lead. Mount Saint Mary would come away with another 7-2 win over Old Westbury, as Grace MacDonald tossed back-to-back complete games.
