Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary College hit the road for another key match against St. Joseph's Long Island. The Knights defeated Manhattanville University earlier in the week to help boost their playoff odds, with a chance to get even closer to the postseason against the Golden Eagles.
Delisianna Naccarato was a force all game long, getting the Mount on board first on the team's opening possession with a free position goal. In a hostile road environment, the Knights showed up to play, with
Antonia Licardi extending their lead to 2-0. The Golden Eagles would notch their first goal of the game in the closing minutes of the quarter as Mount Saint Mary still led 2-1 after the first.
Delisianna Naccarato would begin the second quarter with two goals in 41 seconds for the Mount to make it 4-1. The Knights' defense, led by senior captain
Briana Fassett, suffocated the St. Joe's offense, forcing 32 turnovers and allowing just six shots to reach goalie
Peyton Curley. Fassett not only recorded her 100th career ground ball this game, but also picked up a career-best six ground balls, forced five caused turnovers, and recorded her first career assist. The Golden Eagles would add another goal late in the quarter as they looked to stay in the game, down 4-2 at the half.
Long Island cut their deficit to just one goal 15 seconds into the second half, but the Knights answered the call with their All-Conference First Team tandem of
Shannon McGowan and
Delisianna Naccarato. Naccarato found McGowan for a goal, then took one to the net herself to put the Mount up 6-3. They combined for 10 of the Knights' 12 goals and 13 total points in this game. McGowan scored two more goals this quarter to reach the 200-point mark in her career, becoming the 5th player to do so, and is now tied with Victoria Ward '24 for 4th all-time in points with 202.
Leading 8-3 with just one quarter left, the Mount looked to continue their dominance into the fourth. They did just that, with
Delisianna Naccarato and
Kaitlin Hansen both scoring unassisted goals to make it 10-3 Mount Saint Mary.
Briana Fassett would force a turnover, then find
Shannon McGowan on the woman-up advantage for her first-career assist and McGowan's fourth goal of the game. The Knights held the Golden Eagles scoreless in the quarter while outscoring them 4-0 to come away with a 12-3 victory.
