Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary hosted a doubleheader against Western Connecticut University on Friday afternoon.
Grace MacDonald was on the mound for the Knights, quickly making work of the first three WestConn batters. After a lead-off single by
Autumn Strobach,
Chloe Graham blasted a triple to right field to get the Mount on the board first. The Knights would lead 2-0 after the 1st inning, with MacDonald hitting a hard ground ball to score Graham from third. Neither team would record even a hit until the bottom of the 3rd, where
Chloe Graham hit yet another RBI triple to score
Dana Donnelly, this time, who singled to right field in the at-bat before.
With two outs in the top of the 4th, the Wolves were able to come away with two runs to get themselves back into the game and make it 3-2. WestConn tied things up in the following inning, thanks to some fielding miscues from the Knights. Both pitchers were stout, easily making work of each batter they faced, forcing extra innings. The Wolves had a big inning in the top of the 8th, scoring three runs to make it 6-3, putting all the pressure on the Mount Saint Mary offense. All three batters for the Knights made solid contact, but the WestConn defense made even better plays as the Wolves took game one 6-3 in eight innings.
