Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary College hosted Maine Maritime Academy for its home opener Thursday evening. Senior Kaitlin Hansen would score her first goal in her first season playing lacrosse with the Knights, down a player, to put them up 1-0. From here, the Mariners scored three straight goals in a two-minute span, forcing a Mount Saint Mary timeout. Maine Maritime would find the back of the net once again, before Kasey Senior found Shannon McGowan for the Knights' second goal.

The Mount trailed 4-2 at the start of the 2nd quarter, with their defense starting off strong. Danica Valente and Peyton Curley would both force turnovers on the first two possessions for the Mariners, then Curley made a save that led to a goal for Delisianna Naccarato. With the Knights close to tying the game, Maine Maritime would score 2 goals to give them a 6-3 advantage. The Mount was just 2-12 on woman-up opportunities, while surrendering just as many woman-down goals. Shannon McGowan found Kasey Senior just before the end of the half to make it 6-4, Mariners.

The Knights took advantage of a woman-up opportunity to start the 3rd quarter, as the team's leading scorer on the day, Shannon McGowan, hooked up Delisianna Naccarato for her second goal. This would be the only goal for the Mount in the quarter, allowing the Mariners to score three unanswered goals and extend their lead to 9-5.

Freshman defender Danica Valente would score her first-career goal to start off the 4th quarter, as part of a 2-goal game, where she also led the team in caused turnovers. Both teams traded goals, as Valente found Shannon McGowan after a Maine Maritime goal, but the Mariners were able to keep their distance with another score of their own to make it 11-7. The Knights were unable to mount a comeback late in the game, as Maine Maritime would win this one 12-8.
