BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College softball team split with St. Joseph's Brooklyn in its Skyline Conference opener.

Mount Saint Mary opened up Skyline Conference play on the road with a doubleheader at St. Joseph's Brooklyn. The Knights dominated offensively with 16 hits on the game, and
Grace MacDonald was perfect on the mound with a career-best 16 strikeouts, nearly tying the single-game program record of 17. The Mount would load the bases in the top of the 4th with one out after singles from
Grace Terpening and
Grace Reich, followed by a walk from
Allie Kenney. They were unable to drive in any runs, as the game stayed scoreless through four innings.
Two singles from
Dana Donnelly and
Chloe Graham to lead off the top of the 5th put runners on first and third.
Grace MacDonald hit an RBI double up the left side, then
Grace Reich hit a two-RBI single up the middle to put the Mount up 3-0. In the top of the 7th, the Knights would add to their lead, taking advantage of two errors from the Bears. Three RBI singles from
Allie Kenney,
Autumn Strobach, and
Chloe Graham pretty much put the game away as the Mount now led 7-0.
Grace MacDonald recorded her 14th, 15th, and 16th strikeouts to close out the game, shutting out St. Joseph's Brooklyn with a 7-0 win in game one.

The Knights looked to come into game two with the same energy from game one.
Autumn Strobach got the Mount off with a leadoff single, then
Chloe Graham would hit her first home run of the season to put them up 2-0 in the 1st. St. Joseph's Brooklyn would look completely different in game two offensively, scoring three runs to take the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Down 4-2 in the top of the 3rd, the Mount loaded the bases with an error and singles from
Autumn Strobach and
Grace MacDonald. Nothing would come of it, and the Bears added another run to their lead in each of the next two innings to make it 6-2.
In the top of the 5th, Strobach would try to stretch a double, getting thrown out at third.
Chloe Graham doubled two batters later, to put runners on second and third.
Grace MacDonald grounded out, but would score a runner to put a dent in Brooklyn's lead. The bats for the Bears continued to roll as they added another three runs in the inning to make it 9-3. The Knights needed to answer quickly, and did just so in the top of the 6th.
Grace Reich led off the inning with a triple, then
Ariana Corrente pinch hit and homered to score two runs. The Mount had power behind their swings, with a double from
Autumn Strobach, followed by a triple from
Dana Donnelly to cut their deficit to just 9-7. A pitching change for the Bears settled things down, as the Knights were able to get just one more run in the inning. Brooklyn added a run of their own in the bottom of the 6th to make their lead 10-8. Mount Saint Mary needed at least two runs in the top of the 7th, but weren't able to come up with any as they fell to St. Joseph's Brooklyn 10-8 in game two.
