SANATOGA PARK, Pa. – The Mount Saint Mary College baseball team came back late in game two to split with Valley Forge.
Game 1
The Basics
Score: Mount Saint Mary College 0, Valley Forge 2
Records: Mount Saint Mary College (4-9, 1-1 Skyline) | Valley Forge (9-7, 1-1)
Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary would get two on with two out in the top of the 1st with a single from
Aidan Marshall and a walk from
Kaleb Morgan, but would unfortunately not get anything out of it. A couple of walks to start off the bottom half of the inning led to a run for Valley Forge to give them an early lead.
Stephen Volk led off the 2nd inning with a single and stole second base, but after a 15-run game against Old Westbury on Saturday, the Knights' bats went cold once again. Another lead-off single from
Gregory Harrison in the next inning didn't rally the offense as the Mount still trailed 1-0.
The Patriots would score in the bottom of the 4th off a wild pitch to extend their lead to 2-0. Mount Saint Mary needed to find an answer to their offensive woes quickly and put some runs on the board. With two outs in the top of the 6th, the Knights would get a couple of runners on, starting with a single from
Richard Lamping. Just like the previous opportunities, the Mount could not capitalize, and after a 1-2-3 7th inning, the Knights would fall in game one to Valley Forge 2-0.

Rapid Recap
Hoping to come away with a victory in game two, Head Coach
Trevor Purcell shook up the lineup with a completely different look outside of
Nico Simou. The Knights got two on in the top of the 1st with Simou stealing second base, but just like the first game, they did not get anything out of it. The struggles continued, with Valley Forge scoring three runs in the bottom of the inning off of zero hits. The Mount was able to rebound in the 2nd inning, as
Axel Martinez and
Kyle O'Sullivan both wore a pitch to get on base.
Anthony Voss would hit a sacrifice fly, followed by an RBI single from
Kaeden Fisher to score a couple of runs and make it 3-2, Patriots. Valley Forge would tack on another run in each of the next two innings to extend their lead to 5-2.
A lead-off double in the top of the 4th from
Kyle O'Sullivan helped rally the team and spark some offense.
Kaeden Fisher would single once again, then
Justin Stella walked to load the bases. An error, a walk, and a wild pitch would all help the Knights score runs, but they were willing to take anything to help them get back into the game as they tied it up 5-5.
Sean Carroll came in to pitch in the bottom half of the inning, striking out two batters to get out of a scoreless inning.
Kyle O'Sullivan opened the 5th inning with yet another lead-off hit, followed by a single from
Anthony Voss.
Kaeden Fisher recorded his second RBI of the day as his groundout was good enough to score Voss to make it 7-5 Mount Saint Mary.
Nico Simou added a two-out triple with no one on and would unfortunately be left stranded.
Gavin Oberg came in to relieve
Sean Carroll and would pitch the remaining three innings. Oberg gave up just one earned run, as he walked away with his first-career save and helped the Knights walk away with a 7-6 victory.
