Men's Basketball Falters in Second Half Against Maritime

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's basketball team faltered late in the second half in their loss to Maritime College.

Mount Saint Mary hosted Maritime College Saturday afternoon as the Knights looked to earn their first Skyline win this season. The Privateers opened up the game strong with a 7-0 run before Rob Geremino would get the Knights on the board with a three. The Mount would take the lead with 10 unanswered points of their own, capped off by a Matthew Walsh and-one, the team's leading scorer this afternoon with 16 points. Maritime took the lead right back, but the Knights were having one of their best shooting performances of the season in the first half, going 9-20 from beyond the arc. Justin Rivera led the way with 4 made threes, as part of his 14-point day, as Mount Saint Mary led 26-20 with 7:50 left in the half. A 7-0 run for the Privateers gave them a lead late in the period, but two threes from Geremino and Rivera tied the game 40-40 before Maritime hit a last-second three to make it 43-40 at the half.

The Knights and Privateers traded buckets to start the second half before 7 straight points for the Mount gave them a 50-48 lead. Mount Saint Mary would go scoreless for nearly 6 minutes, allowing Maritime to take a 65-52 lead after a 15-0 run. Brenden Graham would convert an and-one off a JP Egan steal, but the Privateers responded with three points of their own. Maritime would lead by as much as 18 in the half, as the Knights were unable to make a late comeback. The Privateers would defeat Mount Saint Mary by the final score of 81-69.
